Im not playing atm obviously but I still keep up on events.
This is just a warning to anyone looking at the mobile authenticator.
I decided not to go for this for fear of precisely this reason.

Quote:
On the note of the authenticator:

There is (as of the last time I checked) NO way to remove an authenticator from your account short of calling bioware. As a non-US ex-player, this is completely unacceptable.

Additionally, the mobile authenticator cannot be backed up/moved to another phone. This is absolutely crucial on for android phones that can be flashed with new versions often, requiring wipes of the phone.

I only discovered this when I got a new phone. Now I can’t sell my old one unless I never want to play SW:TOR again.

That's a bit over-dramatic but yeah it's also the reason why I never used it, it's more hassle then it's worth.

I do miss those fleet passes the security key vendor sells though :P Bit silly they made that vendor exclusive.

I have one of the keyfobs for my WoW account and I was thinking of picking one of them up for this too. I looked at the phone app but remember hearing stories like this about the WoW ones as well, nice idea but they need to sort out this pretty major flaw with them.

You can now remove your mobile authenticator but you need to ring up customer services to get it removed. did it with my physical one the other day. Only problem is they currently cannot add a mobile authenticator to an account that once had one tied to it then removed. Calling customer services from the UK was actually very quick and painless. Was on hold for no more than 10seconds before my call was answered, that was at 6pm on a friday afternoon. Unsure as to any troubles people outside europe/USA will have.
